A NEW Code of Ethics for Youth Work - YOUR FEEDBACK NEEDED b... by WAAYW (WA Association of Youth Workers (WAAYW))

Hi WA Youth Workers,

At the end of 2012, the WA Youth Work Code of Ethics turned 10 years old. Since then, the Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA) and the WA Association of Youth Workers (WAAYW) have worked together to review the document, to see if it holds up to the requirements of today’s sector and to make changes that are needed.

We started with a survey to the sector where we had more than 50 responses – the outcome of that was that the Code was still pretty good but needed some tweaks. We then held 3 focus group with youth work teams – over a ten week period, these youth workers reconnected with the Code, reflected on its impact and implemented it in their day to day work. After that they provided some feedback about the parts of the code that needed some work. Andrew Cummings, a youth worker with more than 25 years experience worked on editing the code to meet those needs.

We now need to check with you, the WA Youth Workers who hold this code as their guide for practice to check that the edits are right. At the survey monkey link below, you will see the original statements in the code, alongside their new edit. Give us your feedback by COB 16th JUNE 2013 and let us know what you think, positive or negative. Once your feedback is in, we’ll make some final adjustments before publishing a new and improved WA Youth Work Code of Ethics.

Thanks heaps for your commitment to youth work and the real change you make everyday. If you want more information about this review, please feel free to contact us at info@waayw.org. Please forward this through your networks, we want as much feedback as we can get.
